Our Treasured Possession (Malachi 3:13 - 4:6)

OUR TREASURED POSSESSION

MALACHI 3:6-12

God commands us to give sacrificially so that we might learn to depend on him and not ourselves and when we refuse, we rob him of the opportunity to show us his faithfulness.

  • God’s Treasured Possession (vv. 6-7, 10-11; cf. Deuteronomy 7:6; 15:15)

  • Robbing God (vv. 7-11)

  • Our Treasured Possession (vv. 7, 9-12; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

Discussion Starters

Monday—How comfortable do you feel talking about giving? Is this something we should be hesitant to talk about? Why or why not?

Tuesday—Why is God allowed to command us to give? Are you able to give anything to God that does not already belong to him? So why does he tell you to give?

Wednesday—What keeps us from giving more generously/sacrificially? How is sacrificial giving an act of trust and faith?

Thursday—Why doesn’t the New Testament repeat the command to give a tithe? What is that an invitation to do? (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Friday—What does it mean that God is your treasured possession? How does that show itself in how you see (and practice) giving?
