60 — The First Supper

THE FIRST SUPPER (LUKE 22:1-23 | EXODUS 12)

Our Lord meets us each week at his table to assure us of his love and forgiveness and remind us that those who belong to him are heirs of heaven.

  • THE PASSOVER (V. 1; EXODUS 12)

  • THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS (VV. 2-23)

  • THE LOVE OF JESUS (VV. 14-20)

Discussion Starters

Monday—What was the Passover? Why was it so important in Israel’s history and identity? What was it meant to communicate to them?

Tuesday—If the Passover was so important, what does it say about Jesus’ authority if he was willing to reconfigure it? What do we confess about who Jesus is every time we come to His table? How is this both scary and comforting?

Wednesday—If the Lord’s Supper is such a gift, how could it be the source of judgment to Judas as he partook that night with the other disciples? (vv. 21-23) Why is it dangerous to make a mockery of God’s grace? Does this mean we should be afraid to come?

Thursday—Jesus called his final days on earth “troubling.” So why was Jesus “eager” to share this Passover with his disciples? Do you believe he is eager to share the Lord’s Supper with you each week?

Friday—Do you ever struggle to believe that Jesus really loves you? Why is the Lord’s Supper such an important part of understanding his love?
