The Great Sacrifice

THE GREAT SACRIFICE

(JONAH 1:11-17 | MATTHEW 16:21-28)

The Lord offers a sacrifice for our salvation and we are transformed into those who offer ourselves in worship and life back to Him.

  1. THE SACRIFICE OF JONAH (VV. 11-17)

  2. LIVES OF SACRIFICE (VV. 4, 11-12, 17)

  3. A SACRIFICE OF PRAISE (VV. 15-16)

Discussion Starters

Monday— Have you ever read about the crucifixion and wished that it had gone a different way? Do you ever wish that Jesus called down angels to deliver him from Pilate and the Romans? Why didn’t he?

Tuesday— Why does Jonah tell the sailors they need to hurl him into the sea? (vv. 11-12) Why are they uncomfortable with this solution? (vv. 13-14) How do you think you would have responded?

Wednesday— Does God’s sovereignty ever bother you? In what ways? So why do you think the Lord appoints hardships and trials in our lives?

Thursday— What is the leaven of the pharisees in Matthew 16? How does Peter fall into the temptation? How are you tempted to do the same?

Friday— How is our worship meant to reflect the sacrificial character of God? How are our lives called to reflect it?
