Knowing God (Malachi 2:1-9)

KNOWING GOD

MALACHI 2:1-9

When preachers truly know God, they preach Christ and him crucified.

  • The Sins of the Priests (vv. 1-4, 7-9)

  • The Embodied Word (vv. 5-7)

  • Shaped by the Cross (1 Corinthians 2:1-5)

Discussion Starters

Monday—Have you ever considered how many times the Bible talks about the need for worship to be acceptable? (Rom 12:1–2; Phil 4:18; Heb 11:4; 12:28; 1 Pet. 2:5) What makes it acceptable?

Tuesday—What were the priests in the tabernacle called to guard? (Num 1:53; 3:7-8, 38) Why was this necessary? Whom were they serving in this?

Wednesday—Does Jesus care about purity in worship? How did Jesus do what the priests in Malachi’s day refused to do? (John 2:13-17; Hebrews 9:14; 1 Peter 1:19)

Thursday—What kinds of sacrifices are you called to offer God? (Heb 13:15; Phil 2:17; 4:18; Rom 12:2) Is God satisfied with anything less than the best you have to offer? Why?

Friday—Who are the doorkeepers in the church today? (Matthew 16:19; 18:17-18; 1 Corinthians 11:17-19) What is their responsibility? Whom are they serving in this?
